Greetings, dear Yule Writer! I am so pleased that we share a fandom. 2020 has been a heck of a year and I am very much looking forward to my yearly dose of Yuletide fun. As I say every year, the thing I love most about Yuletide stories is spending time in these worlds and with these characters and anything you write will have that. Chef RPF
Characters Requested: Julia Child

This is my “someday my fic will come” fandom. There is almost no Julia Child fic on AO3 and most of what is there is crossovers. I can’t believe there isn’t more Julia fic. I will love and adore and cherish anything you want to write here. I love Julia’s no nonsense attitude and her zest for life. She’s such a larger than life character. “Over the top” seems to be her default mode.

If you are here for the food – me too! I would happily read loving detail of Julia cooking just about anything you like. Julia’s trials and tribulations as she learned to cook are also relevant to my interests. If you are here for the larger-than-life personality – me too! Julia hosts a dinner party anytime from 1950 to 2000 – who’s there and what are they eating? Five times Julia mowed down everyone in her path and one time she was surprisingly sensitive. Julia’s adventures at the White House in any era from Kennedy to Clinton. If you are here for Julia Child former OSS agent – me too! I would love any tales about Julia Child, superspy! If you are here for romance – me too! I love Julia’s relationship with her husband, Paul, and would enjoy any story about their getting to know each other during WWII or their time in Paris or Paul helping with her cooking career or them growing old together.

Dragaera - Steven Brust
Characters Requested: Vlad Taltos, Morrolan e'Drien, Aliera e'Kieron, Loiosh

My favorite Vlad period is after he’s established in the Jhereg but before he’s on the run. An adventure or humorous vignette from that period would be great. A job? Morrolan and Aliera rescuing him from some impossible situation? Or vice versa – him rescuing one of them? A meal at Valabar’s in celebration of some escape from near death?

I like Vlad’s snarkiness and the banter between him and Loiosh or Kragar or almost anyone really. I like Vlad and Morrolan and Aliera kicking ass with swords, sorcery, or witchcraft. I like Vlad figuring out how to get himself out of some pickle. I’m intrigued by Vlad’s abilities with amorphia and the forbidden elder sorcery. I’m also intrigued by Spellbreaker/Lady Teldra/Godslayer. The supporting cast here is vast and I love almost all of them and their backstories. In addition to those mentioned above, I particularly like Setha, Kiera, Daymar, and Devera. The only exception is that for me the Vlad/Cawti angst and the disintegration of their relationship hangs over any story involving Cawti and makes me sad.

Gashlycrumb Tinies - Edward Gorey

For me, this is the 5-minute fandom that keeps on giving. I have received lovely, humorous Gashlycrumb Tinies fic more than once, and I am back for more. It’s the humor I love about this canon, rather than the macabre, though I don’t mind a bit of dark humor.

I’d love anything funny. Gashlycrumb Tiny playdate? Gashlycrumb limericks? Gashlycrumb pen pals? Revenge of the Gashlycrumb Tinies? Gashlycrumb Grown Ups? This is your license to go wild and be as creative and cracky as you like.

Ocean’s (Movies)
Characters requested: Danny Ocean, Rusty Ryan

Rusty: How was the clink? You get the cookies I sent?
Danny: Why do you think I came to see you first?.

I love the clever schemes and how all the details fall into place at the end, tying together things we didn’t realize mattered but are actually important to the plan. I like the banter and camaraderie between the team, the opulent settings, the fact that the targets of their heists are people we love to hate.

I’d like buddy fic or caper fic. If you want to write a heist story with the details of their clever plan, I’m there for that. Or maybe they’re just sitting around reminiscing about outrageous highlights of previous capers? Maybe they’re out to dinner together and casually con someone along the way because how could they not? If you want to go for a scheme (or a vignette from a scheme) that requires Danny & Rusty to pretend to be a couple, that would be relevant to my interests. They could get a little carried away with their roles if you liked.

I am happy for any of the other Ocean team members to appear, except for Tess and Isabel. (I’m not sure how our lovable con men ended up with such straight arrow ladies. I have a hard time seeing those relationships working.)

Crossover thoughts (ignore these unless they spark something in your imagination): They hang out in opposite social and economic brackets, so I’m not sure how this’d even work, but the crossover I’d most like to see here is with Soderbergh’s latest heist movie, Logan Lucky.

Royal Spyness Mysteries (Rhys Bowen)
Characters requested: Georgiana Rannoch, Belinda Warburton-Stoke, Darcy O’Mara

“flirting does not come easily to someone brought up in a remote castle with tartan wallpaper in the bathrooms, bagpipes at dawn and men who wear kilts.”

“I am constantly being reminded that is is my duty to make a good match with some half-lunatic, buck-toothed, chinless, spineless, and utterly awful European royal, thus cementing ties with a potential enemy.”

I love the Wodehousian humor and period settings of this series – witty banter, silly nicknames, comedy of manners, house parties, breakfast trays, maids, royalty, cruises, evening dresses, dinners where it matters who is seated next to whom.

I want a story where things go right for Georgie and she has the upper hand on everyone else. Give me the banter and the humor and sure there should be some slapstick and farce, but at someone else’s expense this time. I want Georgie to have something stunning to wear, plenty of luxurious food, and a fabulous evening or birthday or tea party or something. And a kiss from Darcy.

Crossover thoughts: If Lord Peter Wimsey, Hercule Poirot, or Miss Marple want to make an appearance they’d be welcome.

Sing (2016)
Characters requested: Gunter

“Let the music take control of your body parts.”

I love Gunter’s positive attitude, his generosity, and his occasional cluelessness. Also his spandex and sparkles.

I want to know more about Gunter. Where does he live? Is his house/condo/apartment/RV/dorm room as fabulous as his outfits? Does he have a day job? A significant other? Are Gunter’s parents and siblings as marvelous as he is?

Show me a slice of Gunter’s life. Gunter on a date? Does Gunter like to cook? Gunter visiting one of the other Sing characters post-movie? Gunter organizes a Sing reunion? Gunter’s post-movie career as a Richard Simmons-esque exercise guru? (They have similar taste in costumes, no?) Gunter’s fabulous vacation?

Crossover thoughts: Gunter and Dory seem to me to be somewhat kindred spirits, but I'm not sure how to work that given one is land-based and the other water-based. I suppose if Gunter's fabulous vacation took him to a beach then Dory could make an appearance.

Vorkosigan Saga – Lois McMaster Bujold
Characters: Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan

I want Cordelia shocking folks and kicking ass in her own inimitable Betan way. I’m only part way through the Vorkosigan books and I’m reading them in chronological order rather than publication order, so I loved Cordelia and Aral well before meeting Miles. It frustrates me that Miles focuses on living up to his father’s reputation when, IMHO, it’s his mother who is the more badass one. After all, she’s the one who is thought to have somehow killed Ges Vorrutyer while chained naked to his bed and she’s the one who ended the Vordarian pretendership by strolling into the Imperial Residence through a back door and walking out with Vordarian’s head in a shopping bag.

Possible prompts: Cordelia & Aral share a private joke or a private moment? Cordelia stomps some Barayarran intrigue threatening her family by simply thinking outside their narrowly proscribed Barayarran boxes? Cordelia imparts her scandalous galactic perspective to Miles on some topic that is controversial on Barayar but well solved elsewhere? Someone underestimates Cordelia to their, perhaps fatal, detriment?

What I like: The humor. The way the characters defy their world’s stereotypes, not just Cordelia and the Barayarran sexist stereotypes but Miles and disability stereotypes and Aral and patriarchal or heterosexual stereotypes. Layered schemes and the protagonists out-thinking their enemies by reimagining the boundaries of the situation. Characters who are smart and strong and wise.

Julia Child RPF
Characters: Julia Child

I love Julia’s joy, her zest for life, her enjoyment of pleasures grand and small, her sensual appreciation for food, her try-and-try-again attitude of rolling with the mistakes and her determination to keep at it until she gets things just right.

Possible prompts: Despite working for OSS during WWII, Julia claims not to have been a spy. But what if she was? What if she was training to be the culinary Mati Hari, seducing key people through her cooking, dazzling their senses with food and wine and then pumping them with innocent seeming dinner conversation? A lost episode of The French Chef in which Julia cooks and eats some mythological/fantasy/alien creature or plant? Want to write porn? Paul and Julia making love? A naked second honeymoon breakfast in bed? Crack!fic porn? Paul and Julia making love and exchanging gastronomic food metaphors, comparing each other’s tastes, smells, and textures to fine foods and wines?

What I like: humor, vicarious foodie experiences, Julia’s resilience and good humor, romance.

Research Institute (Lego)
Characters: Any

I think this is one of those Yuletide nominations that could inspire fabulous random creativity and I am curious to see what people do with it. I would love any kind of lady lego scientist shenanigans. Ideally I would like them to be friends and colleagues rather than rivals, but I’m not wed to that if your plot bunnies require lego lady cat fights.

Want some prompts? Our heroines band together to overcome some petty administrative or departmental hassle. Lego lady social life with scientists out on the town looking for lego love? Lego lady social life featuring scientist geek girls gaming or D&D night? Lego scientist con scene? Our heroines get themselves out of some fix by MacGyvering just the right tools from their lab or classroom equipment, taking humorous meta advantage of the fact that they live in a lego world?

Prompts: I would love Archie/Lily romance and seduction with Archie at his most charming. If that doesn’t appeal, humor would be great. Maybe Archie sneaks Lily into his room in the brownstone and they get caught?

I like Archie’s sense of humor, witty banter, Archie being a gentleman, Archie figuring out things Wolfe isn’t telling him, Wolfe sending Archie for a clue or a person, Inspector Cramer chomping on his cigar, Archie’s observations about people. I enjoy the vicarious foodie experience, from Archie having a really good piece of pie at a diner to Wolfe & Fritz discussing menus to the rare occasions when Wolfe is called upon to cook. I like how Rex Stout weaves in references to current events and current literature. I like period details from clothes to cars to doormen to dancing at the Flamingo. I would love a romantic, seductive Archie/Lily date night story or first-time story. Or if that doesn’t float your boat, humor is good too.

Gashlycrumb Tinies – Edward Gorey
Characters: Any
Prompts: I don’t know who nominated this, but it was genius. I have nothing specific to request here, I’m just sure that this fandom is certain to inspire something creative.

I like Gorey’s humor, wit, and eccentricity. The horror aspects of the work don’t really interest me but I don’t mind dark humor.

My requests and what I love about each fandom:

My Life in France – Julia Child
Characters: Julia Child, Paul Child
Prompts: I would love a story from Julia’s time in France. Maybe a memorable meal she ate or cooked or a lavish party she went to or hosted. Or Paul/Julia romance – they seem so sweet together.

I love Julia’s zest for life and her no nonsense, straightforward, unapologetic attitude. I love how she conveys her excitement at new tastes and new experiences. I am intrigued by her service in the OSS during WWII. I admire her determination to get things right and how hard she worked to do so. I love her relationship with Paul. They seem very sweet together. I am intrigued by the transitions in their relationship. It sounds like it wasn’t love at first sight but that romance grew from friendship. And their early married life was shaped by his career where their later life was shaped by hers. I’m also a sucker for the vicarious foodie experience.

I’ve searched for Julia Child fic and haven’t found any, so if you write this you might well be the very first author in a new fandom!

Nero Wolfe series – Rex Stout
Characters: Archie Goodwin, Nero Wolfe, Fritz Brenner
Prompts: I would love something from Fritz’s point of view – a meal, a case, an interaction between Archie & Wolfe, a day in the life of the household. How does Fritz see our favorite detective duo? Or if that doesn’t appeal I’m fine with Archie narrating as usual. Or, if you want something specific, Wolfe invites someone to dinner – who is it? Inspector Cramer? J. Edgar Hoover? Ernest Hemingway? Albert Einstein? Someone else?
