AO3 Name: Lorelei

General likes: humor, farce, crack!fic, witty banter, romance, first times, getting together, period details, enemies-to-friends, foodie moments, our heroes kicking ass, adventure, case fic, clever schemes, epistolary fic, choose your own adventure, five times fic, happy endings

General dislikes: major character death, noncon, sad endings, explicit violence or gore, rape, unresolved angst

I requested tricks or treats and art or fic. On the tricks end, I would love spooky or Halloween themed tricks and would prefer to avoid hardcore horror or anything super dark.

The Tick
Characters Requested: The Tick

Spoon!

I go way back with The Tick. I was a fan of the original comics but have also seen the animated and live actions TV shows. So whichever version of canon you know, we probably have common ground. I love the humor in this series and I love The Tick’s relentlessly positive attitude and his wacky take on the world.

The City seems like it would be a hoot on Halloween. Does Tick have difficulty sorting the trick-or-treaters from the super heroes and super villains? How does Tick react to being mistaken for a trick-or-treater? Is Tick keeping the world safe from jack-o-lanterns?

Alternatively, I’d love a vignette about Tick’s utterly bizarre and unique take on just about any random ordinary human activity. What does the Tick find noteworthy or puzzling about library cards? Making pizza? Selfies? Dental floss?

Art prompts: Tick dressed up for Halloween. Tick with children, maybe playing at the park or standing in line for the ice cream truck. Tick being hero-ly, hoisting handfuls of villains in the air or bouncing bullets off his chest.

Gashlycrumb Tinies
Characters Requested: Any

I received lovely Gashlycrumb Tinies fic for a previous Yuletide and now I’m back for another fix. It’s the humor I love about this canon, rather than the macabre, though I don’t mind a bit of dark humor.

Tricks: I would love Gashlycrumb Tiny undead! Are they zombies or ghosts or vampires? Why do they walk the earth? Unfinished game of hopscotch? Revenge? To drink the blood of juice boxes? Siblings to haunt?

Treats: I’d love anything humorous. Gashlycrumb Tiny playdate? Five times they thought they were in trouble and the one time they actually were? Gashlycrumb limericks? Gashlycrumb pen pals?

Art prompts: Anything in the style of Gorey would be welcome. Or I’d love to see any set of the Tinies together. They are all alone in the original. Or Gashlycrumb Undead.

Professional Chefs RPF
Characters Requested: Julia Child

I love Julia’s no nonsense attitude and her zest for life. All of the Julia Child fics on AO3 are crossovers and the only one where Julia is the main character is a drabble. I can’t believe there isn’t more Julia fic. She’s such a larger than life character. “Over the top” seems to be her default mode.

Tricks: Julia Child’s ghost is haunting someone! Who is she haunting and why? Maybe she hangs out at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in her old kitchen? Or does she haunt a current day professional chef? Alton Brown? Anthony Bourdain? Possibly she haunts the studio where her TV shows were filmed?

Treats: In WWII, Julia was in the OSS, which was the precursor of today’s CIA. Tell me about Julia Child, superspy! Or – Julia is having a dinner party. When, where, who and what? Pick any time period from 1950 – 2000 and any set of celebrity guests and tell me all about the party. If you’re here for the food more than the adventure, then feed me that food pr0n in deliciously decadent detail. Describe the many courses of an opulent meal and how they’re prepared and what Julia enjoys about them.

Art prompts: Julia in the prime of life. Julia and a fantastic feast. Julia Child, superspy. Julia and her husband Paul used to send out elaborate Valentines Day cards featuring photos of themselves. I’d love a Julia valentine.

FOOD & COOKING

"I was 32 when I started cooking; up until then, I just ate."

"I enjoy cooking with wine, sometimes I even put it in the food..."

"Always remember: If you're alone in the kitchen and you drop the lamb, you can always just pick it up. Who's going to know?"

"I found cooking fascinating because it tested art and science. First you master the science, later comes the art."

"I think careful cooking is love, don't you? The loveliest thing you can cook for someone who's close to you is about as nice a Valentine as you can give."

LIFE

"Every woman should have a blowtorch."

"If you’re in a good profession, it’s hard to get bored, because you’re never finished—there will always be work you haven’t yet done."

"The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking you've got to have a what-the-hell attitude."

"The main thing is to have a gutsy approach and use your head."

"The measure of achievement is not winning awards. It’s doing something that you appreciate, something you believe is worthwhile. I think of my strawberry soufflé. I did that at least twenty-eight times before I finally conquered it."

"Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it."

"Everything in moderation … including moderation."

"Drama is very important in life: You have to come on with a bang. You never want to go out with a whimper. Everything can have drama if it’s done right. Even a pancake."

HERSELF

"I was a Republican until I got to New York and had to live on $18 a week. It was then that I became a Democrat."

"Pro-choice is the only way to be-- because women are human beings, after all, and should be treated as such."

"My height (6 feet 2 inches) made me uncomfortable when I was a kid because I was different. But I got used to it."

"Being tall is an advantage, especially in business. People will always remember you. And if you’re in a crowd, you’ll always have some clean air to breathe."

"I have no fear of dying. It's something that happens."

"I don’t think about whether people will remember me or not. I’ve been an okay person. I’ve learned a lot. I’ve taught people a thing or two. That’s what’s important. Sooner or later the public will forget you, the memory of you will fade. What’s important is the individuals you’ve influenced along the way."

I have decided to collect a few examples of Julia Child awesomeness in the hope of inspiring myself or someone else.

"Valentine cards had become a tradition of ours, born of the fact that we could never get ourselves organized in time to send out Christmas cards." --Julia Child
