Dear Wonderful Yule Writer
Oct. 26th, 2012 12:16 amI am so excited that you’re writing a story for me! First, let me say that optional details really are optional. What I most like is spending time in these worlds and with these characters and any story you write will have that. But if you are looking for info about my tastes or like to write to prompts …
Nero Wolfe – Rex Stout
Characters: Archie Goodwin, Lily Rowan
Prompts: I would love Archie/Lily romance and seduction with Archie at his most charming. If that doesn’t appeal, humor would be great. Maybe Archie sneaks Lily into his room in the brownstone and they get caught?
I like Archie’s sense of humor, witty banter, Archie being a gentleman, Archie figuring out things Wolfe isn’t telling him, Wolfe sending Archie for a clue or a person, Inspector Cramer chomping on his cigar, Archie’s observations about people. I enjoy the vicarious foodie experience, from Archie having a really good piece of pie at a diner to Wolfe & Fritz discussing menus to the rare occasions when Wolfe is called upon to cook. I like how Rex Stout weaves in references to current events and current literature. I like period details from clothes to cars to doormen to dancing at the Flamingo. I would love a romantic, seductive Archie/Lily date night story or first-time story. Or if that doesn’t float your boat, humor is good too.
Gashlycrumb Tinies – Edward Gorey
Characters: Any
Prompts: I don’t know who nominated this, but it was genius. I have nothing specific to request here, I’m just sure that this fandom is certain to inspire something creative.
I like Gorey’s humor, wit, and eccentricity. The horror aspects of the work don’t really interest me but I don’t mind dark humor.
Dragaera – Steven Brust
Characters: Aliera e’Kieron
Prompts: Anything with Aliera as the main character. The story of Aliera and Mario Greymist? Devera’s birth (or, um, creation or genesis or whatever)? Aliera getting to know her Great Weapon? Vlad (or Sethra or Zerika or Morrolan) needs Aliera’s help for something?
I like wit, banter, and snark. I like back story. I like Vlad and Morrolan and Aliera kicking ass with swords, sorcery, or witchcraft. I like complicated schemes. In addition to the characters mentioned above, I particularly like Kiera, Daymar, and Noish-pa. I don’t mind which characters other than Aliera do or don’t appear. The only exception is that for me the Vlad/Cawti angst and the disintegration of their relationship hangs over any story involving Cawti and makes me sad.
General info about my likes/dislikes:
I read all of gen, het, slash, and femslash and any rating from G to X is fine by me.
Turn-ons: humor – from witty banter to wry commentary to farce to crack!fic; drooling over a fine fictional meal; period details; romance; seduction; first times; happy endings; swashbuckling, capers, and our heroes kicking ass in their own particular intellectual/sorcerous/whatever ways
Turn-offs: major character death; rape; unresolved angst; love that is still unrequited at the end of the story; stories that depend on characters being hopelessly dense or not communicating unless done for humor
Not usually my thing, but there are exceptions I have loved: AU; crossovers; MPREG
