Hello, Trick-or-Treat Creator!

Below you will find some info about my general likes and dislikes and some prompt ideas for each fandom. First I want to say, as I always do, that I truly buy into 'optional details are optional'. What I like most is spending time with these characters, and anything you create will have that. So do not feel beholden to any of the specific prompts below or in my sign-up.

I have only requested fic because I don't feel like I know how to give good prompts for art. But I would be thrilled to receive art extras if you feel inspired. Similarly, I am open to Halloween-themed or spooky tricks, but I would rather avoid anything too grim or dark.

I love the humor and the offhand way this canon treats extraordinary events. I love the centuries-long friendship between Aziraphale and Crowley and the hint that there is perhaps something more there. I love Aziraphale's bookshop and Crowley's car. I love Crowley's slightly slithery walk and Aziraphale's slightly prim manner. I love the subtle ways in which each bucks the expectations of Heaven/Hell.

I ship Aziraphale and Crowley, so feel free to go that direction if you do too. In that vein, I'd prefer something more toward the romance side than the porn side.

I would love to see historical vignettes with either of them or indulgent foodie experiences. Or what do they do on vacation? Or tell me about a time when they acted in a way that might technically be against the good/bad rules of heaven/hell and how they justified it to themselves.

This is a fandom where crossovers would be fun. Is Crowley a member of the Drones club with Bertie Wooster? Are Aziraphale and Jeeves members of the same book club? Crowley and Phryne Fisher comparing cars while Dot and Aziraphale worry over their respective speed demons? Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple having tea with Aziraphale? Peter Wimsey and Crowley at a wine tasting?

Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold

I love so many things about the Vorkosigan saga. I love how it is simultaneously space opera with galactic technology and about an old fashioned feudal system. I love the rich cast of characters and the complex relationships between them. I love adventures and clever schemes and solving mysteries.

Cordelia: In the early books, Miles worries about living up to his father's reputation. I have always thought it funny that he never gives any thought to how scarily badass his mother is. In many ways, I think Miles takes after her in his Dendarii mercenary days as she also pulled off some fairly amazing escapades with out-of-the-box thinking and few to no resources. Tell me a story about an escapade of Cordelia's or a story about a time where someone called Cordelia to come to the rescue.

Alys: I love stories where Lady Alys's skills in social intrigue, fashion, or etiquette turn out to be the key to solving some mystery or overcoming some complicated Barrayaran political plot.

If you feel inclined to combine these two, I would love a story where Alys is the intelligence-gathering arm of the operation and Cordelia is tactics and firepower. Apply that to either Barrayaran politics or domestic/family intrigue. I am happy for other characters or relationships to come into the story, particularly Drou, Miles, Ivan, Gregor, Cordelia/Aral or Alys/Simon.

Knives Out (2019)

I see Knives Out as a somewhat more restrained successor to Murder by Death and Clue. I am here for absurd family dynamics and rich people behaving badly. I am also fascinated by Benoit Blanc as some kind of hybrid of Colonel Sanders and Hercule Poirot.

Linda: She seems like the favorite among her siblings. Perhaps there are some stories of one upsmanship among them? Does Linda take revenge for Richard's infidelity by acquiring some kind of entirely unsuitable boy toy paramour? A story that revolves around the secret notes between Linda and Harlan?

Benoit: I would love to see more of the inside of Benoit's head. What is his thought process in solving a crime? What does he think of absurd family dynamics or rich people behaving badly? Are there any deleted scenes in which some member of the Thrombey family came on to him as a transparent attempt to influence his investigation?

Harlan: From the movie, he seems like an ok guy. Are we seeing a rosy ret-conning of a deceased patriarch? If not, how the heck did he end up with such a phenomenally dysfunctional family? I would also love to hear about Harlan's process in working on the plot or dialogue for a mystery in progress.

Nero Wolfe - Rex Stout

I love the period details in these books. I love that the mysteries make sense at the end and we can see where the clues were. I love Wolfe's big brain, and his love of food, and his various quirks. I love that he knows what he wants and has managed to engineer a life where he can pretty much get it. That said, I also love the rare occasions where Wolfe is forced to abandon his routine.

I only asked for Wolfe, but I also love Archie and Fritz and I am quite fond of Saul and Cramer. Any of them are certainly more than welcome to come along. I do love the relationship between Wolfe and Archie and I particularly love their banter or the occasions when Archie manages to manipulate Wolfe into something (usually something that really did have to be done). I have to confess, though, that I am wishy-washy on shipping them. I have read some slash stories with them that I have loved, but that doesn't tend to be my default view of them.

Food. Give me something with food. A fine fictional meal, dish by luscious dish, with Wolfe's reactions (or Archie's) or his accompanying lecture on the history of each dish. Or a dinner party with special guests, historical or fictional. Or a case where the solution turns on culinary knowledge or detail. Or an occasion where Wolfe cooks. Or what does the brownstone serve to its trick-or-treaters?

If food is not your thing, I would also love a story with plenty of banter or one revolving around books.

Characters Requested: The Tick

Spoon!

I go way back with The Tick. I was a fan of the original comics but have also seen the animated and live actions TV shows. So whichever version of canon you know, we probably have common ground. I love the humor in this series and I love The Tick’s relentlessly positive attitude and his wacky take on the world.

The City seems like it would be a hoot on Halloween. Does Tick have difficulty sorting the trick-or-treaters from the super heroes and super villains? How does Tick react to being mistaken for a trick-or-treater? Is Tick keeping the world safe from jack-o-lanterns?

Alternatively, I’d love a vignette about Tick’s utterly bizarre and unique take on just about any random ordinary human activity. What does the Tick find noteworthy or puzzling about library cards? Making pizza? Selfies? Dental floss?

Art prompts: Tick dressed up for Halloween. Tick with children, maybe playing at the park or standing in line for the ice cream truck. Tick being hero-ly, hoisting handfuls of villains in the air or bouncing bullets off his chest.

Gashlycrumb Tinies
Characters Requested: Any

I received lovely Gashlycrumb Tinies fic for a previous Yuletide and now I’m back for another fix. It’s the humor I love about this canon, rather than the macabre, though I don’t mind a bit of dark humor.

Tricks: I would love Gashlycrumb Tiny undead! Are they zombies or ghosts or vampires? Why do they walk the earth? Unfinished game of hopscotch? Revenge? To drink the blood of juice boxes? Siblings to haunt?

Treats: I’d love anything humorous. Gashlycrumb Tiny playdate? Five times they thought they were in trouble and the one time they actually were? Gashlycrumb limericks? Gashlycrumb pen pals?

Art prompts: Anything in the style of Gorey would be welcome. Or I’d love to see any set of the Tinies together. They are all alone in the original. Or Gashlycrumb Undead.

Professional Chefs RPF
Characters Requested: Julia Child

I love Julia’s no nonsense attitude and her zest for life. All of the Julia Child fics on AO3 are crossovers and the only one where Julia is the main character is a drabble. I can’t believe there isn’t more Julia fic. She’s such a larger than life character. “Over the top” seems to be her default mode.

Tricks: Julia Child’s ghost is haunting someone! Who is she haunting and why? Maybe she hangs out at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in her old kitchen? Or does she haunt a current day professional chef? Alton Brown? Anthony Bourdain? Possibly she haunts the studio where her TV shows were filmed?

Treats: In WWII, Julia was in the OSS, which was the precursor of today’s CIA. Tell me about Julia Child, superspy! Or – Julia is having a dinner party. When, where, who and what? Pick any time period from 1950 – 2000 and any set of celebrity guests and tell me all about the party. If you’re here for the food more than the adventure, then feed me that food pr0n in deliciously decadent detail. Describe the many courses of an opulent meal and how they’re prepared and what Julia enjoys about them.

Art prompts: Julia in the prime of life. Julia and a fantastic feast. Julia Child, superspy. Julia and her husband Paul used to send out elaborate Valentines Day cards featuring photos of themselves. I’d love a Julia valentine.
