Dear Yuletide Author
Nov. 13th, 2010 01:31 pmYou’re writing me a story! Thank you! The thing I like most about all three of these fandoms is just spending time with the characters and any story you write will have that. But in case you’re looking for ideas…
General Preferences:
Like: humor, banter, witty dialog, intelligent characters, complex schemes, our heros kicking ass literally or intellectually, gen or slash or het, any rating G to X, happy endings
Not usually my thing but there are exceptions: AU, crossovers, unresolved angst
Dislike: major character death, love that’s still unrequited at the end of the story, plots that depend on characters either being utterly dense or not communicating with each other (unless done for humor)
Specifics:
Nero Wolfe: the period details (diners, doormen, dancing at The Flamingo), the scene at the end when they’re all gathered in Wolfe’s office, the food (both Wolfe’s gourmet tastes & Archie enjoying a simple piece of pie), Wolfe sending Archie out to fetch a clue or a person, Wolfe’s idiosyncrasies, Wolfe insisting that Archie explain women, Cramer chomping his cigar, Saul Panzer’s memory, Wolfe doing that thing with his lips when he’s on to something, Archie needling Wolfe just enough but not too much, Archie’s observations about people, Archie being frustrated when Wolfe won’t let him in on the details, Archie occasionally catching on almost as soon as Wolfe does
Don’t like: het involving Wolfe
Vlad Taltos: Vlad’s sarcasm, Vlad and Morrolan and Aliera saving each other’s asses, swashbuckling sword & sorcery, Morrolan’s backstory, Aliera’s backstory, Loiosh, Kragar, Daymar’s cluelessness, Valabar’s, klava, Devera, Godslayer/Lady Teldra, pre-empire sorcery
Don’t like: Vlad-Cawti angst
Red: the nuttiness of the main characters, them kicking ass, their layered Rube Goldberg style schemes, adventures of the team in their heyday, continuing adventures after the movie possibly helping out young Agent Cooper, their trying unsuccessfully to be conventional retirees
