Oct. 23rd, 2015 11:16 pmHello, Yule Author! Thank you for writing a story for me! The thing I most look forward to about my Yuletide stories is spending time in these worlds and with these characters and any story you write will have that. I truly buy into the idea that optional details are optional. But if you're looking for info on my tastes or for some story prompts, you'll find them below.
Edward Gorey’s PBS Mystery Intro
Characters: Any
This is a 60 second fandom. You can find a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKxJ6a0epUc
I like Gorey’s humor, wit, and eccentricity. I also like the period details and the manor house feel to the settings. I asked for, and received, lovely, hilarious, witty Gashlycrumb Tinies fic in 2012 and have been wondering what someone could do with the Mystery Intro.
Want some prompt ideas? What is going on here? Are these exploits of one master criminal? Cases of one master detective? The events of a single evening or weekend of mysterious occurrences at some aristocratic house party? Or is it a LARP?
Etiquette – Emily Post (1922)
Characters: Any
I am a big fan of etiquette books, particularly vintage ones. I like the period details and the idealized fantasy life of weddings, formal dinners, thank you notes, maids, house parties, breakfast trays, trousseaus and so on.
Want some prompt ideas? Humor or crackfic would be great. Epistolary fic of Mrs. Richard Worldly and Mrs. Robert Gilding Jr. each writing in to Emily Post for advice about the other? Five times Mr. Clubwin Doe made the tiniest little misstep and Mrs. Gilding pounced upon him for it and one time Mrs. Gilding made a whopper of a faux pas and he caught her at it? This is a fandom where crossovers might be fun. Someone needs advice for dealing with wizards or aliens or Lord Peter Wimsey or Nero Wolfe?
Fawlty Towers
Characters: Basil Fawlty, Sybil Fawlty
Poor Basil. He gets into such messes and they are usually of his own making. I like the humor here and Basil’s doomed schemes and his attempts to rescue them. I like Basil’s snark and Sibyl’s placid refusal to be ruffled by him. I do like Polly and Manuel, particularly when they are drawn in as Basil’s accomplices, but I didn’t request them specifically and don’t mind whether they do or don’t appear in the story.
Want prompts? Why are Basil and Sibyl together? Show me what works about their relationship. Or maybe a story about Christmas at Fawlty Towers? What grand holiday scheme has Basil come up with and what goes wrong with it?
General info about my likes/dislikes:
I read all of gen, het, slash, and femslash and any rating from G to X is fine by me.
Yes Please: humor – from witty banter to wry commentary to farce to crackfic; drooling over a fine fictional meal; period details; romance; seduction; first times; happy endings; swashbuckling, capers, and our heroes kicking ass in their own particular ways
Do Not Want: major character death; rape; unresolved angst; love that is still unrequited at the end of the story; stories that depend on characters being hopelessly dense or not communicating unless done for humor
AO3 Name: Lorelei
